CNC Milling Machine FAQs

Your Questions. Answered.

From machine delivery and installation to programming, maintenance, and support, find answers to common questions about DATRON CNC milling machines.

How long does delivery of a DATRON CNC machine take?

Delivery times depend on the machine model, availability, and configuration. Custom configurations typically require approximately 8–12 weeks. Contact DATRON USA for an estimated delivery schedule for your machine.

Where are DATRON CNC machines manufactured?

DATRON CNC machines are engineered and manufactured in Germany. DATRON USA provides dedicated American sales, applications engineering, training, service, and technical support from its headquarters in Milford, New Hampshire.

What maintenance do DATRON CNC machines require?

Routine maintenance includes keeping the machine clean, maintaining lubrication of motion components, inspecting filters, and checking machine systems as directed by the maintenance schedule. DATRON USA also offers preventive maintenance programs to help reduce unplanned downtime.

Explore DATRON training and support

What facility preparation is needed before installation?

DATRON CNC machines generally require a suitable electrical connection, clean, dry compressed air, and adequate installation space. Power requirements vary by machine model and may involve single-phase or three-phase service.

DATRON USA can help confirm the electrical, air, space, and other site requirements for your specific machine before delivery.

Do I have to use DATRON cutting tools?

No. Other compatible cutting tools may be used, provided they meet the machine and high-speed spindle requirements, including appropriate balancing.

DATRON's carbide cutting tools are specifically designed for high-speed CNC machining and can help optimize machining performance.

Do DATRON CNC machines run G-code?

DATRON machines use the proprietary SimPL programming language rather than executing conventional G-code directly. Compatible post-processors allow programs created in supported CAD/CAM software, including Autodesk Fusion and Mastercam, to be prepared for DATRON machines.

Learn about CNC post-processors

What coolant do DATRON CNC machines use?

DATRON CNC machines can use minimum quantity lubrication (MQL), which applies a controlled mist of lubricant directly to the cutting area. Depending on the application, an ethanol-based coolant may be used to support high-speed machining and minimize oily residue.

Explore DATRON chip management and coolant systems

What materials can DATRON CNC machines cut?

DATRON CNC milling machines are used for a variety of materials, including aluminum, other suitable nonferrous metals, engineering plastics, and selected composites and foams. Capabilities depend on the machine, tooling, workholding, and application.

DATRON USA's applications team can help evaluate the most suitable solution for your material and part.

What warranty comes with a DATRON CNC machine?

Warranty coverage and terms should be confirmed for the specific machine and purchase agreement. Contact DATRON USA for details on the applicable warranty, available service options, and ongoing technical support.

DATRON CNC FAQs

We keep a stock of commonly configured machines for immediate delivery. Custom configurations typically take 8–12 weeks.

All machines are engineered and built in Germany. Our USA subsidiary in New Hampshire stocks spare parts and tools and provides training, service, and support.

Maintenance is simple: keep the machine clean, grease the motion systems, and clean the air filters every few months. DATRON also offers preventive maintenance programs to protect your investment and maintain accuracy.

Very little. You’ll need clean, dry shop air and either single-phase or three-phase power, depending on the model. For networking, just connect an Ethernet cable. No floor reinforcement is required.

No. You may use other tools, but they must be balanced for high-speed spindles. DATRON’s micro-grain carbide tools are optimized for high-speed machining.

They do not run G-Code directly. DATRON uses a simple programming language called Simpl+, and we offer post-processors for major CAD/CAM systems such as Fusion® and Mastercam®.

DATRON uses an MQL (Minimum Quantity Lubrication) system. For non-ferrous materials, the system sprays ethanol, which evaporates cleanly within seconds. For steel and other materials, a light oil can be used in the MQL system.

Almost anything. DATRON specializes in high-speed machining of non-ferrous materials such as aluminum, brass, copper, and composites. The machines can also cut steel, especially for detailed work like engraving or micro-features.

DATRON provides a one-year warranty beginning at delivery to your facility (or rigging company). Wear parts such as spindle bearings are not included. Extended warranty options are available.
