Machining a microwave antenna on a DATRON high-speed milling machine

Microwave and Millimeter Wave Eelectronics Machining

Whether it’s microwave antennas or waveguides, amplifiers, mixers, multipliers, detectors, adapters. The common requirement is to produce small, intricate, high-quality parts. The inability to produce tiny parts fast can cost you the competitive edge. This could even be match-box-sized aluminum enclosures for 5G, defense or automotive radar … and they sell for thousands of dollars. But they simply cannot be machined on a conventional VMC.

Enter DATRON high-speed milling machines with DATRON neo starting at $89,900, these machines feature high-speed spindles from 40,000 to 60,000 RPM and are designed specifically for the type of components that you need to make. When a bench-top machine for measuring your high-tolerance parts can cost as much as a DATRON neo, the decision is easy. DATRON is sound investment in a very lucrative industry and one that will give you a leg up on the competition. Here are some features that will help you make parts better and faster than ever before:

Milling Machines for Microwave Applications:
The M8Cube is an ideal machine for milling small electronics partsand the 40” x 32” x 9” work area has ample room for various workholding setups like pneumatic clamps, vacuum tables and even a trunnion-style 5-axis system. Precision-ground ball screws, linear guides and brushless direct drives provide superior accuracy in all axes. Optional XYZ probing recognizes irregular surfaces and compensate for them dynamically.

The M10 Pro is our fastest most accurate machine with linear scales for high position accuracy across the entire work envelope. With a 41" x 35" travel the M10 is capable of rapid rates up to 30 meters per minute. When the shortest cycle times or mirror finish surfaces are required, the M10 is the way to go. Plus, the liquid-chilled, 40,000 RPM spindle is exceptionally suited to rapid, high-volume material removal. The solid granite table adds rigidity for precision milling.

Now, if an extremely large work area is required, as is the case for milling large workpieces or batch milling a run of smaller ones, the MLCube is a large format milling machine that is ideally suited. The 60" x 40" travel of the MLCube can be equipped with a QuadraMate Vacuum Table to hold large sheet material up to 24" x 36". Aside from the large machining area, the specifications for the MLCube are similar to the M8Cube.
