Coating

Tool coatings can have a great influence on the cutting process The right coating can increase cutting speed and tool life, and improve the surface finish.

The coatings are just a few thousandths of a millimeter thick but harder than steel; these low-friction coatings are extremely wear-resistant and chemically inert. The optimum coating is determined on the basis of both conditions of use and economic considerations.

Enormous performance enhancements were achieved with materials that are difficult to machine.

We offer Alcrona and X.Ceed high performance coatings from Balzers, one of the global leaders in coating technology and diamond coatings.

Alcrona:

Low frictional value and hot hardness

Alcrona Coating is extremely hot-hard (3200HV at up to 1100°)

and has a low frictional value (0.35 dry against steel).

It is also abrasion-resistant, even at high cutting speeds.

X.CEED:

Hardness and high coating adhesion

X.CEED Coatings have a hardness of 3300HV.

They adhere exellently to the tool substrate and are

therefore also suitable for machining hard-to-cut and dardened material.

Diamond:

High hardness and chemical resistance

Diamond Coating are recommendet for cutting highly abrasive materials. The hardness is over 9000HV and the friction value of 0.15.

Benefits
  • Significantly increased tool life
  • Decreased chipping force
  • Better chip removal/lead-away
