DATRON provides a UID marking solution to manufacturers in the form of a high-speed CNC milling and engraving machine that is flexible enough to handle a wide variety of applications and rugged enough for 24/7/365 industrial production. DATRON CNC machines can perform UID marking in stainless steel, hardened steel, aluminum, plastics, composites and virtually any other millable material. And get this – because of our 3D probing and material surface scanning ability, DATRON can even engrave UID markings on ROUNDED or CONTOURED SURFACES ... at an even depth!

 

The UID or Unique IDentification program is a mandate by the Department of Defense (DOD) that calls for specified “tangible assets” to be marked so that they can be tracked through their “useful” life. Therefore, there has been a rise in the need for marked tags and nameplates made from metals and plastics.

Specifically, manufacturers producing equipment purchased by the United States Government meeting a certain criteria will need to mark their products for UID compliance. Those criteria are as follows:

  • Serially managed
  • Mission essential
  • Controlled inventory
  • Serially managed
  • Consumable item or material where permanent identification is necessary

Milling Machines for UID Marking:
While all DATRON milling machines are designed for precise UID marking in a variety of materials, there are some differentiators that may help you to narrow your search. The M8Cube offers an ample 40" x 32" work area for milling large parts or sheet material.

For UID marking on parts that are a bit larger or require the highest quality, the M10Pro is best suited. This is our fastest and most precise CNC machining center. It features a 41" x 35" bed with a +/- 5 micron position accuracy. Its solid granite machining table adds rigidity and accuracy. HSK-25E tool holders yield less than 3 micron runout.

Now, if an extremely large work area is required, as is the case when UID marking on large batches of parts, the MLCube features a 60" x 40" work area. Due to features like automatic tool change, batch machining can be run unattended or during lights-out production as a means of cost reduction.
